Hi, I have had a problem with horses chewing on their stalls. I’m sure many of you have had the same problem. They are bored!! Give them something to do beside chewing on the barn or fence. The best item I have found is called the “Pas-A-Fier”. I found this item in the “Toys and Treats” section of our website called www.highsierrahorsesupplies.com. This device has a spinning motion of the 3 wheels and the apple scent make this more appealing to a horse than his favorite chewing spot. Rubber wheels have the elasticity to withstand the strongest horse’s bite. Complete with steel shaft & steel corner mounting hardware for installation on wood or similar walls. They have so much fun with this gadget they don’t bother chewing on anything else, besides, it smells good and tastes good. Give it a try, you will not only be surprised but pleased, as will your horse.

Several years ago I was on a trail ride with friends in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park which led on to the beach. It was really great. I was riding my horse, “Lightening”, who had iron sides so I always had to wear spurs on him. As we were riding along that instructor rode up to me and struck up a conversation. He told me that a REAL HORSE WOMAN doesn’t wear spurs on her horse if she knows what she is doing. I said “Really?” I then went on to tell him that my horse does not respond without the spurs. As long as I put the spurs on in front of him he behaves very well and does everything I ask of him.

For those of you that have a mare which you bred for the first time and now is in foal, there is so much information you need to know. On our website, www.highsierrahorsesupplies.com, there are so many books and charts under veterinary supplies filled with very informative information and charts that are available for new owners of a mare that is about to foal. These items are an absolute must read. One of the best books is called “Foaling Primer”. There are many descriptions and photos to help you understand just what is going on with your mare. Another item is “Foal Watch - Testing Kit For Foaling Management”. This is also found in veterinary supplies on our website. You will be amazed when you find all of the information you need to handle the foaling of your mare. After the foal is born, please imprint that baby. That will make your new foal so much easier to handle in all phases of its training. There is even a “Foaling Chart” which is very informative.

Another book called “How to Raise Horses” gives you a wealth of information on what to feed your horse, how and where to house your horse, how to train your horse for whatever dicipline you intend to use your horse. Several photos in the book are also enclosed for your information. Owning a horse is a big responsibility. The more informed you are, the better off you and your horse will be for the future.

Another item you might be interested in is the “VSI Foal Kit” which is on our website also under veterinary supplies. This kit contains necessary items you will need while preparing for your mare to foal. The kit includes a bag in which to put the placenta (afterbirth) so the vet can check it out to make sure everything is there and nothing is left in the birth canal which can cause infection. Also included are latex gloves, iodine, a dip cup, an enema and a scapel to cut the umbilical cord. Also make sure you have several clean towels to dry off the foal which allows you to touch the foal all over which is part of the imprinting process.

Does your horse chew wood?

Is your horse aggressive toward humans, horses and other animals?

Do you have an unruly stallion?

Is your horse kicking his stall and or kicking in the horse trailer?

Is he a weaver or pacing at the fence or in his stall?

Is he pawing?

Does he bang on or kick the stall door?

The Vice Breaker H2 is your answer. It is a remote controlled electronic collar which which stimulates your horse to a varying degree which you control. This device can be found in Horse Training Accessories. Your horse will not associate the stimulation with you. It will eventually break him of his bad vices. You will find this item to be a good solution for your problems.

Do you have a cribber? There is a great new device available to horse owners called “The Vice Breaker”. It is a fantastic device which can give a small bit of a shock to your horse or a bit more. It’s controlled electronically so you set the intensity. It will help not only cribbing but wood chewing, stall kicking, weaving, pacing, chewing leg bandages, and a number of other annoying habits. It is a really remarkable device.
